A small mountain range was where we stopped after an hour drive. Marching for another hour on parched lifeless grounds took us to a beautiful gorge with lots of green trees at the bottom, once the hunting ground of the Maharana.
The large pools at the bottom and a few overhangs in the steep walls of the gorge must have provided a gorgeous environment for those pre-history dwellers, who drew animals and people onto the rock. Kukki described with great enthusiasm how he had searched the area since his youth and had come across a lot of rock paintings.
Of course this is not for everybody to be seen, so down a hidden path between large boulders we climbed, a few brushes were pulled aside and then finally… Animals and people drawn into the rock with reddish and black color, some clearly visible, some fading. An infatuating experience: down below the gorge with its greens trees and gurgling waters and us looking at paintings that are partly older than the pyramids.
Kukki knew how to take perfect photos of us and the paintings and gave his theory of what was happening there thousands and thousands of years ago.
Back on the road, we dropped Kukki off in a village where he caught a transport back to Bundi leaving the front seat to Kelly who he knighted with Kellygji, a suffix that shows particular respect and admiration. That made her day.
